Complete Musicianship 3-Year Course
for children ages 4-8

2nd Year
August 2025 to May 2026
Up to 9 children in each class.
Classes are once per week for a total of 30 classes.
Second Year is such a blast! All the internal skills, rhythm skills, voice training, ear training, staff reading, classical music study and other components we've been diligently studying in 1st Year will still be present in 2nd Year, but we will be now using the keyboard/piano as our primary "vehicle" to drive our musical learning. We will learn how to play the red, blue and yellow chords on the piano with the right hand (fall semester) and left hand (spring semester), learn how to add chords to a melody, play steps, skips, leaps, intervals, identify white key names and our "anchor keys" on the grand staff. Your kids will even find the keyboard familiar, as the tone bells we've been playing are simply a "micro keyboard"; the tones from Do to Do simply make up one octave (8 notes) of the piano! Of course, all of these skills will be introduced incrementally and with loads of FUN!
You will need a piano/keyboard at home for daily practice. See the piano/keyboard requirements in the Parental Involvement section below! If you don't have a piano or keyboard at home already, one must be secured and set up by the first class in August.

Let’s Play Music 1st/2nd Year Recital – mid May
Class duration: 50 minutes a week (1st Year was 45 minutes; 3rd Year will be 55 minutes)
Parental involvement:
Parents attend class once per month on lesson 1, 5, 9, 13 & 15 of each semester. They also assist with keyboard/piano practice at home. This will be the same in 3rd Year as well.
The biggest difference between 1st and 2nd Year is that kiddos are going to move from the tone bells as the main vehicle of learning to the keyboard/piano. This will require regular practices and, of course, obtaining a keyboard or piano if you don't already have one. Students are expected to practice 5 times per week. The practices start out only around 5 minutes in length, and gradually grow to about 12-15 minutes per practice by the end of the year. So the hardest part is actually incorporating the daily habit of sitting down to practice. The practices themselves are pretty smooth! It will be the parent's responsibility to ensure practices happen. If you have a "real" piano (aka an acoustic piano), the piano must be professionally tuned once per year. Tuition:
$560 for the entire 2nd Year
--An $80 non-refundable deposit is required by March 31st to secure your child’s spot. This will be put toward the tuition balance so that $480 will remain when classes start. The remaining balance of $480 *can* be paid in four monthly installments of $120 ( due on Lessons 1, 5, 9 and 13 of the fall semester). If you decide to pull your registration from LPM prior to classes starting, the $80 deposit will be retained.
--Let's Play Music is a 3-year program in its entirety. Registration for Let's Play Music is per year. Upon registration, it is anticipated that you plan to the best of your ability for your child to complete all 3 years of the Let's Play Music program. If you are unable to complete all 3 years and must leave between semesters or between years, there will be an early withdrawal fee of $80, as I cannot give your place to another student due to the musical knowledge progression of the program.
--Please register for the class time in which you are currently enrolled. If you would like to move to another class time, just let me know. It is possible someone will want to switch. When choosing your class time, please keep in mind that attendance for Let's Play Music is of utmost importance as the program advances in knowledge quickly. Students should strive to attend at least 13 of the 15 classes per semester.
Registration for 2nd Year opens on Saturday, March 1st!
Registration is a 2-step process:
1) Register your child with corporate LPM by going online to reserve their spot and pay for your child’s materials ($72/full set or $42/sibling set). Note: Purchase of materials is required to reserve your child’s place.
2) Pay $80 non-refundable deposit by March 31st. Payable to Katie Shannon via cash, check, PayPal or Venmo. Can be slipped into Katie's studio tuition dropbox or mailed to P.O. Box 796, La Porte, IN 43652.
